Cable theft campaign concept
A big problem for Network Rail and British Transport Police is cable theft. It costs Network Rail a vast amount of money as well as time spent trying to fix lines that have been vandalised. Cable thieves are also putting their lives and others at risk by stealing and vandalising. Cable thiefs often pose as rail workers when committing crimes so the cable theft campaign was aimed at Network Rail staff as well as train enthusiasts to ask them to help British Transport Police identify any suspicious activities. The concept is can you tell if the person you see is rail staff or a metal thief. The aim was to make people think and pay more attention to what’s going on around them and they were also provided with a confidential line to call should they see or hear anything suspicious.
